Gigs The Venue, Thursay 12th August 2004

Edinburgh during the festival has a reputation for being cosmopolitan, exciting and full of international flavour. Strange then, that at the beginning of the festival period we're reviewing one of Edinburgh's own bands, returning for their first gig in their home town for eight months, supported by two more Scottish acts. Gigs The Liquid Rooms, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th May 2004

The tag line on the advertising boasts that the Big Red T have been "Supporting New Talent Since 1996", and this is one of their highest profile ways of doing it - 4 nights of gigs at the Liquid Rooms, 4 nights at King Tut's, 6 bands per night, and the chance for the best 12 to go on and play the T Break stage at T in the Park. For an unsigned band, it's hard to imagine a bigger prize. With apparently 800 entries this year, then the finalists should have something worthwhile to offer.

Unfortunately, we could only make it to the weekend gigs, having not made it to the first two nights, but we've still got 12 bands that should be the cream of what the East of the country has to offer, with 20 minutes each to show what they can do. Read more... (about 1380 words)

Reviews: Triptych : Four Tet + Explosions in the Sky

Gigs The Venue, Sunday 2nd May 2004

The Venue was stacked to the rafters for a night of the avant garde and experimental last night, headed up by Four Tet and Explosions in the Sky, but ably backed up by Mattew Dear, Dabrye, Animal Collective and Fennesz.

The heavy hitting line up, along with a late license for the night, meant that Explosions in the Sky didn't take to the stage until nearly two o'clock, with Four Tet following at three, but the punters held out until the end for what proved to be a spectacular show. Read more... (about 340 words)

Gigs The Venue, Saturday, 13th March 2004

Saturday night and Degrassi are playing in Edinburgh, but hang on a minute this isn't Bannermans its The Venue. And more importantly what's happened to Paradise Lost Andy? It appears even Edinburgh's own cult gothic superstar has to do laundry like the rest of us mere mortals. A country song gone bad. No sign of SL Records Ed Pybus, a better offer perhaps?

Reviews: Brit Awards 2004

General When 2004 Brit Awards host, Cat Deeley, entered the stage straddled on a large champagne bottle, you knew it was going to be a good night - as was later proved with the jaw dropping white number she wore.

The first award of the evening, Best International Male, went to the guy for N Sync who had the funny hair…or Justin, as he is known. Read more... (about 740 words)
